Christian Theology at Ampleforth

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to three key areas of Catholic Christian belief: Christ, prayer and the Church. The course has an overall rationale, which is to provide an overview of key Catholic Christian beliefs in these three main topics at a level of understanding suitable for year 9. The choice of topics has been shaped by the requirements of the Catholic Bishops’ Curriculum Directory for religious education in Catholic Schools.

Topics are considered, which are not covered in public exam courses in later years; these include Old Testament passages which help in understanding the Christian doctrine of salvation, religious life and monasticism, the doctrine of the Church, the doctrine of the Trinity. Other sections of the course, such as the presentation of Christ in the gospels and the doctrine of the sacraments help to prepare for the GCSE course.
