ICT at Ampleforth

All students are given basic training in I.C.T. skills in the first year and have access to computers that are linked together by a network. The department offers the OCR Applied ICT AS and A2 courses in the Sixth Form.

The main clusters of machines are in 4 computer rooms although all departments and boarding houses also have machines linked to the network. Microsoft Office 2003 is the standard program suite for staff and students.

E-mail and World Wide Web facilities are available to all students to enhance communications and provide access to the wealth of valuable information available from computers at universities, colleges and government agencies. E-mail is intended for curriculum use and to help communications with families. The Internet connection is via a leased line at 2mbs giving reliable web access from all parts of the network at any time.

Students have always been expected to behave in a responsible manner on the internal computer networks. However the availability of access to the Internet has prompted us to draw up an Acceptable Use Policy, covering all aspects of behaviour on networked computers. All are expected to sign it before using College computers.
