Aims

The Department aims to: -

  1. Appreciate the wide range of hardware and software tools that may be used in an effective ICT system
  2. Develop an understanding of the appropriate use of ICT within given situations
  3. Promote excellence in the effective use of ICT as a cross-curricular tool for research and in the capture, storage, processing and presentation of work. The gifted shall be challenged and the weak encouraged
  4. Prepare students for the adult world
  5. Encourage students to have a systematic approach by developing skills of analysis and design together with testing, evaluation and appropriate documentation as well as the actual implementation of solutions
  6. Keep abreast of current technological and software developments
  7. Recognise the effects that ICT can have on Society including issues surrounding The Data Protection Act, The Computer Misuse Act, Copyright Law, Health and Safety and the impact of computers in the workplace. To encourage students to consider these issues in a morally responsible manner
  8. Acquire project and time management skills particularly when producing solutions for a third party
  9. Encourage students to learn to touch-type
  10. Support departments, staff and students in their use of ICT encouraging collaboration
