Junior Debating Society
Junior Debates are held on Tuesday evenings throughout the school year and all members of the first year, second and third year are welcome to attend either as main debaters or as members of the floor. Motions this year have included topics suggested by both pupils and staff such as 'This house believes that no household should be allowed more htan one car' and 'This house believes that the voting age should be lowered to 16.'
The Junior Inter-House Debating Competition occupies most of the second term, with motions covering both national and international topics and subjects closer to home. This year's motion for the final was 'This house believes that divorce should be made illegal' and saw St Hugh's defeat a strong St Margaret's team. The St Hugh's team was made up of Alastair Smith and Ryan Lech. Alastair was also awarded 'Best Individual Speaker'.
