In Zanzibar in Tanzania, Face-Faw continues to support the Francis Maria Libermann School.  Face-Faw made an agreement with Bishop Augustine Shao, C.S.Sp, the Bishop of Zanzibar in December 2006 to provide support and links between Ampleforth and the school of the Diocese there, the Francis Maria Libermann School. John Osborne (a parent of five boys at Ampleforth) and a member of the Community visited Bishop Shao and Francis Maria School in December 2006. Face-Faw is funding 90% of the fees of twenty most needy pupils, some boarders included (estimated cost £2,400) – it is hoped that each house at Ampleforth will sponsor two students.  In addition, Face-Faw provided funding for exercise books and pencils at the school to the approximate value of £3,000, this was achieved through the  generous support of Simon Stone [a friend of Jozef Mycelski (H90)] of Stone Marketing Ltd in Tonbridge.

The Francis Maria Libermann School is described by the Director of Education of the Diocese, Fr Cosmas Amani Shayo, in a Report to Face-Faw dated 20 December 2006, as “a giant school academically among the private schools of Zanzibar”, and Face-Faw is grateful to be associated with its future. Support can be given to Face-Faw (Zanzibar). James Nolan (T78) and his family visited the school in August 2007, teaching some classes, and has offered to help Face-Faw in providing further support. In January 2008, Emily Leeming (A07) and Camilla du Boulay (A07) assisted in the school for two months.

Friendship and Aid to Central and Eastern Europe - Friendship and Aid for the World (Face-Faw) represents Ampleforth’s concern for the needs of the world.
