Entry at 13+ (Year 9)
All boys and girls registered for entry will receive a conditional offer letter from the Headmaster five terms (20 months) before the due entry date. The offer of a place at the College is conditional on
1.
- Achieving a satisfactory mark at Common Entrance (please see note below) or
- Passing the Ampleforth Entrance Exam or
- The provision of satisfactory evidence of academic ability sufficient to access the Ampleforth College curriculum.
- Students with special educational needs will need to be assessed by the Special Education Needs Co-ordinator.
- For students applying from abroad, evidence of a satisfactory standard of both written and spoken English
Note: A satisfactory target mark at Common Entrance is 60% overall. Applicants who are unlikely to achieve this target may still be offered a place subject to individual assessment and mutual agreement. From 2011, a strict lower pass mark limit of 50% will apply. This also applies to students from St Martin's Ampleforth.
2. A satisfactory reference from the boy or girl's current school.
