Entry at 13+ (Year 9)

All boys and girls registered for entry will receive a conditional offer letter from the Headmaster five terms (20 months) before the due entry date. The offer of a place at the College is conditional on

1.

  1. Achieving a satisfactory mark at Common Entrance (please see note below) or
  2. Passing the Ampleforth Entrance Exam or
  3. The provision of satisfactory evidence of academic ability sufficient to access the Ampleforth College curriculum.
  4. Students with special educational needs will need to be assessed by the Special Education Needs Co-ordinator.
  5. For students applying from abroad, evidence of a satisfactory standard of both written and spoken English

Note: A satisfactory target mark at Common Entrance is 60% overall. Applicants who are unlikely to achieve this target may still be offered a place subject to individual assessment and mutual agreement.   From 2011, a strict lower pass mark limit of 50% will apply.  This also applies to students from St Martin's Ampleforth.

2. A satisfactory reference from the boy or girl's current school.
