First Year Retreat
19 June 2009
Exodus of the Twelve Tribes
On Monday 15th June the First Year had their Retreat which took the form of a pilgrimage from Ampleforth to Gilling via the lakes and ended with Mass in Gilling Church. The theme of the Retreat was the Exodus. During the course of the day we reflected on the journey from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land. The tribes were asked to think about community life, what contributes to the building of community and what holds us back. We reflected on the need for rules and developed our own Ten Commandments.
We started in glorious sunshine and straggled back through thunder storms and pouring rain, which certainly contributed to the atmosphere. The day was characterised by a sense of togetherness and journeying.
